Who Sells The Best Coffee Beans In Seattle_

Who Sells The Best Coffee Beans In Seattle?

in Kitchen Tips on 08/11/16

As you already know, Seattle is a home of more than 25 independent roasters, all situated within the city limits. Due to its high number of roasters, choosing the best coffee beans in Seattle might be a challenge. After doing some research, I had discovered quite a few roasters which offer some good quality coffee beans.

After living for quite a while in Seattle, I was adamant to search for the best coffee beans in the city. Since I can’t live without a good cup of coffee, my goal is to search for the best roaster. To help those fellow coffee lovers like me, I’m going to share the results of my research.

Arabica Vs Robusta

When we talk about commercial coffee beans, there are two available varieties that you can choose- Arabica and Robusta. Here is its comparative characteristics.

Taste
If you like a sweeter taste, then Arabica is your best choice because it contains more sugar content than Arabica. Many people compare the taste of Robusta to burnt rubber because it has a more bitter flavor. The bitterness comes from the high caffeine content which is almost twice the amount of Arabica.
Price And Quality
From a price point of view, Robusta is cheaper than Arabica green beans. In the market, the price of Robusta is around half the price of Arabica. However, Robusta is deemed as low-quality beans because it’s subservient in aroma and flavor than Arabica. If we relate quality with price, then we can say that Arabica has a higher quality since you pay more.
Cultivation And Yield
Growing Robusta is easier than Arabica. The high caffeine content of Robusta serves as a chemical defense against bugs and other insects. As a result, Robusta provides a higher yield than Arabica.

Bottom Line:

If we consider taste and quality, then Arabica is a better choice than Robusta. However, if you opt for a lower price and higher yield in production, then Robusta wins.

Although most people consider Arabica as a higher grade bean than Robusta, you can’t guarantee its quality unless the roaster/seller does a great job in treating the journey of the coffee beans.

Top 3 Independent Roasters In Seattle

There are more than 25 independent roasters in Seattle, but my favorites are listed below.

1. Caffe Vitta

Caffe Vitta has been in the coffee bean business since 1995. Caffe Del Sol is their signature espresso blend which offers strong aromas of butterscotch, dark chocolate, and praline. The Novacella Decaf has a sweet finish with some hints of roasted chestnuts.

This independent roaster has been traveling around the world in search of excellent coffees that conform to their high standards of roasting and social sustainability. They have gone as far as Congo Tsheya, Sumatra, and Mexico. To achieve complete manual control, they use traditional Probat and Gothot roasters.

2. Stumptown

Stumptown is one of the new roasters in town. They roast their coffee beans with such great detail to bring out the flavor of chocolate, molasses, and floral notes. A team, known as the Green Team, visits the producers personally for better supplier partnership and implement new techniques.

One of their best coffee beans is the Holler Mountain which offers a combination of citrus zest, caramel, and hazelnut. The French Roast provides strong aromas of clove and dark chocolate. If you like to taste some hints of cherries and plums, you can try their House Blend.

3. Espresso Vivace Roasteria

Espresso Vivace is one of the original roasters in Seattle. This independent roaster was founded by David Schomer and Geneva Sullivan in 1998.

Since 1992, this coffee bean seller has searched the world for the mildest arabicas and using each bean in their blends to the most aromatic point of caramelized sugar constitution. The precision they get from their research led them to determine the peak development of every coffee they use in their blends.

Two of their best coffee beans are Espresso Vita and Espresso Dolce. Espresso Vita is roasted to create the best caffe latte with a strong hint of caramel. Espresso Dolce features a rich hint of chocolate balanced with a sweet floral aroma. You can make a delicious espresso in the comfort of your home with the use of a good espresso machine.
